Dr. Isabel Ruiz was born in Bolivia, and at a young age, her family moved to the United States. Growing up her parents worked various jobs so that she and her sibling could attend college, and their work ethic and sacrifices have always been strong motivators for pursuing her education. She first received a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and a minor in Spanish from Texas A&M University.
She then graduated from the University of Houston College of Optometry with a Doctor of Optometry degree. As a student, Dr. Ruiz was awarded a letter of clinical excellence from her attending faculty. She completed externships with Fort Worth Community Eye Clinic and with the Indian Health Service which both emphasized diagnosing, treating and managing various eye diseases, as well as working with underserved populations. Dr. Ruiz is licensed as a Therapeutic Glaucoma Specialist and is a member of the American Optometric Association and Texas Optometric Association.
Dr. Ruiz is fluent in Spanish and is happy to conduct Spanish eye exams. Being one of six siblings, she loves being part of a big family! In her spare time, she likes trying new cuisines, enjoying the outdoors, and exploring Austin.
